Columbia Memorial Hospital is offering a training session that will qualify participants for the annual concussion certification required by the governing body for prep sports in Oregon. There will be two sessions available on Tuesday August 7 and both are free provided as a public service by the hospital and the OHSU sports medicine outreach program.

The seminar will be conducted by Jim Chesnutt,MD who is the Medical Director for the OHSU Sports medicine program and outreach coordinator Sean Coster. In an interview with KAST news Dr. Chesnutt said that it's important for both coaches and parents to be able to recognize the signs of concussion and make good decisions about when to seek treatment to prevent further injury.

The course meets the annual Oregon Schools Athletic Association (OSAA) concussion training requirement and is open to all with special emphasis on coaches, trainers, and parents of athletes.
