In the wee hours Saturday morning Toledo Police Officer Aaron Pitcher was on patrol in the City of Siletz when a pick-up truck from the city fire department caught his attention driving very slowly until it came to a stop in the middle of the road and the headlights went out.  Officer Pitcher had not heard any fire department calls  and found it strange that a fire department vehicle was parked in the middle of the roadway at this time of the morning.

The driver was identified as 38-year old Robert Learn, a volunteer firefighter with the City of Siletz Fire Department. While talking to Mr. Learn,  Pitcher said he found several indicators that Learn had been consuming alcohol. Based on his observations, Officer Pitcher began a DUII investigation.  While talking to Mr. Learn about taking field sobriety tests he reportedly became combative and verbally abusive with Officer Pitcher and resisted arrest.

Learn was booked into the Lincoln County Jail on a charge of DUII, Resisting Arrest as well as being issued a citation for Refusing a Breath Test.  According to Siletz Fire Chief Dave Lapoff, Learn is presently on leave until the Siletz Fire District completes its investigations.
