Astoria Seeks Public Input On Trail Plan
The City of Astoria will host several events and opportunities to allow residents and neighbors of Astoria to provide feedback on needs, desires, and concerns related to recreational trails within the City. This feedback will directly influence future actions that will be included in a Recreation Trails Master Plan that is being created in conjunction with the City’s Transportation System Plan update.
“The City completed a Recreational Trails Master Plan in 2006 where existing trails and future trail improvements were identified. Unfortunately after the December 2007 storm a number of trails were severely damaged. The update will build upon the current plan and address future needs” states Brett Estes, Director of Astoria’s Community Development Department. The City will be partnering with agencies that own or maintain land that currently have trails in or near Astoria. These agencies include Clatsop County, Oregon Department of Forestry, and Lewis and Clark National Historical Park. Estes is scheduled to be a guest on KAST with Tom Freel on Thursday, August 9th at 8:00am to talk about the opportunity for public input.
The first public event will be held Sunday, August 12, from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm at a booth in the Sunday Market. The second event will be Thursday, August 16, from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm in the Lovell Building of Fort George Brewery at 426 14th Street. Both of these events will include maps, posters, and surveys that the public can utilize to inform the City of existing issues or future needs for trails. The City encourages residents to attend one of these events or submit your comments to the Community Development Department to assure your desires or concerns are heard.
In addition, a survey will be distributed online and posted on the City’s website (www.astoria.or.us).
