Astoria city councilor Arline LaMear looks forward to another four years in office. LaMear defeated Robert F. Howard in the Tuesday election. LaMear says key city projects include possible renovation of the present city library, although a definitive legal opinion hasn't determined whether some $800,000 to $900,000 in trust fund money can be used for the project.
LaMear says the city needs to implement its riverfront visioning plan. The existing riverwalk will also be extended further east.
Other city projects include realizing a community center at the old Armory building. A memorandum of understanding was approved by the city council this week, as the city moves to partnering with the Columbia River Maritime Museum on the project.
LaMear says the city hopes to enlist the help of the National Guard to fill the old basement at the Safeway/American Legion block downtown.
And, she says relocating the above ground water line back underground on Bond Street will take place next summer, once legal issues are resolved with ODOT regaridng paving.
