Project America Run begins at Peter Iredale beach Saturday
Idaho resident Mike Ehredt, a U.S. Army veteran will run cross country to honor those members of our armed services who have sacrificed their lives in Iraq. The run this Saturday, May 1st  begins at the wreck of the Peter Iredale in Warrenton and finishes in Rockland, Maine. Ehredt’s run starts at eight a.m.;  he’ll be escorted by Patriot Guards and Legion Riders. He’ll cross the New Young’s Bay Bridge about ten. He’ll be escorted across the bridge by a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter. From Hamburg Street in Astoria, he’ll be followed by several motorcycles to the Maritime Museum and the riverwalk to the east mooring basin. Then, it’s on to Clatskanie and eastward to the finish line at Rockland, Maine. Ehredt will average 29-miles per day for a total of 4,522 miles in approximately 157-days.

Legion spokesman Mike Phillips encourages clam diggers to bring their flags to the Peter Iredale; the low tide for diggers coincides with Ehredt's start.   The public is also encouraged to bring their flags to wave as Ehredt runs along the route to Astoria.  Ehredt will lay a flag at every mile point in honor of the verterans who sacrificed their lives.  Project America Run is accepting donations; for more information visit www.projectamericarun.com

A reception for Ehredt to be held at 5:00p.m. this Friday, April 30th at Clatsop Post 12 of the American Legion in downtown Astoria.
