Astoria Lights Out To Save And Pave
In an effort to save some money on the cost of lighting up the town and, at the same time, add more money to the paving project fund staff is suggesting turning off some neighborhood street lights.

The Astoria Council directed staff to continue investigating the possibility of saving approximately
$36,000 annually by disconnecting some neighborhood street lights, mostly in mid-block areas.  That money would be added to municipal fuel tax funds to get more paving projects completed.

The city plans to post a map on it's website showing where lights would go dark. The plan does not include downtown, intersections, or curves.

Staff will refine the plan and bring it back for council consideration and public comment at a later date.
