Port lets Crider resignation letter go away


Port of Astoria commission president Bill Hunsinger confirms that executive director Jack Crider had submitted a letter of resignation to the port following a recent regular meeting and closed door executive session. The letter was apparently prompted after commissioner Floyd Holcom publicly chided Crider for threatening to play the resignation card. <<READ MORE

Port hopes for clear title to pier one marina building



The Port of Astoria hopes to buy the marina building at pier one from the Bank of Astoria.  Executive director Jack Crider says clear title to the building is sought, which would clear up outstanding liens against construction of the building, which was built by former commissioner Glen Taggart.

City of Warrenton challenges flood plain maps and wants dikes certified


The City of Warrenton challenges new FEMA flood plain maps, as a city delegation  heads to Washington, D.C.; Mayor Gil Gramson and city commission vice chair Mark Kujala make the trip.  The city wants the Corps of Engineers to certify the city’s dikes and avoid costly new insurance coverage for property owners.  <<READ MORE

Warrenton School Board dismisses Superintendent Brewington


The Warrenton School Board votes 4-2 not to renew superintendent Craig Brewington’s contract, with board members Jim Gannaway and Darlene Warren dissenting.  In protest, Gannaway then announces his resignation effective with the close of the meeting.  <<READ MORE

Blazers crown Kings 88-81


PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Brandon Roy had 19 points and hit a clinching jumper with just over two minutes left, leading the Portland Trail Blazers to an 88-81 win over the Sacramento Kings last night. The Kings pulled to a 74-all tie in the final quarter, but Roy's jumper with 2:07 left made it 85-78 -- all but sealing the win. Portland has now won five in a row against the Kings.

UW's Jackson will be back next year


SEATTLE (AP) — Washington athletic director Scott Woodward says women's basketball coach Tia Jackson will return next season. Woodward tells The Associated Press that the 37-year-old Jackson will come back for the fourth season of a five-year contract. That's despite the worst three-year record in the program's history. Woodward says he's seeing marked progress.

Brewers over Mariners 6-2


UNDATED (AP) — Prince Fielder knocked in a pair of runs and Corey Hart hit a solo homer to lead the Milwaukee Brewers to a 6-2 exhibition win yesterday over a Seattle Mariners split squad. Meantime, Matt Tuiasosopo (too-ee-ah-suh-SOH'-poh) had three hits, and Franklin Gutierrez and Chris Woodward each had a run-scoring sacrifice fly to lead the other Seattle Mariners split squad to a 5-4 victory over the Chicago White Sox.
